@dmullerdesign I experimented with acetone on Colorfabb XT and it had no effect on it.

In the 3rd photo, did it print those pegs without support?

You should probably print your character in pieces like this: http://www.cel-robox.com/forums/topic/first-full-piece/
Maybe @phivu3d could give you some tips as they have gotten great results.

I’ve never been able to get ABS to print flat, and I sometimes have trouble with the Robox PLA. But I printed this the other day with Colorfabb XT and it came out perfectly flat. No modeling tricks or cleanup. That is a great material!

@discosteve I did it in my kitchen without any problems. When I removed the print from the can I put the can outside to air out. If you somehow made a spark inside the can it would just shoot up and hit the ceiling!

@pelgrim, I probably won’t go as far as making a youtube video, but for now I can provide links to videos that I learned from.
Cold acetone vapor smoothing (really easy and works great)
Priming and painting ABS plastic

@workshopshed, It’s typically automotive primer for car paint repairs. I got mine in the automotive section of a department store but you should be able to get it at any auto supply shop or Amazon. It’s also called filler primer.

Thanks, @smitty!
@workshopshed, the paint job was pretty straight forward. I acetone vapor smoothed the parts (the head and teeth were printed separately), which got it most of the way there, then lightly sanded and primed. Then wet sand and re-prime a few times until all the tiny gaps and imperfections were filled. The primer dries really fast…[Read more]

Thanks @robyneil. It was all printed with the green ABS that came with my Robox. I haven’t purchased any new filament yet. I used sandable primer and lacquer spray paint.

I made this business card holder for a friend’s company that makes plush monster toys. I printed it in ABS and smoothed it with acetone/sanding/paint. The eyes are manufactured.
I had a lot of failed prints with the ABS not sticking to the bed but I eventually got something usable.

I do all the cleaning with IPA, bed heating, and high ambient temp stuff and I still get mixed results. Now if it doesn’t stick on the first couple layers I cancel it and move the object to a different part of the bed. Eventually it sticks, but it’s always in a random spot that may or may not have worked on a previous attempt.
