Hello All,
Here’s my latest 3D print… my tribute to Leonard Nimoy. After his passing, I wanted to print a bust that I already had of him, but thought it could use more work on the likeness. So I spent some time and got it to where I feel pretty good about it. This is a 1/5 scale test print. Gonna make a few minor revisions, then go for the final size… a 1/3 scale bust! Hope you all like it. Thanks.
Oh, and I took more process pics this time, so I’ll post those over the weekend

Here are more pics of the Spock bust…
Printed in ABS, Chroma Green. I’m not liking ABS that much, but I ran out of PLA, so it’s in ABS. Ordered a couple reels of Designer Grey PLA, so hopefully those will get here soon.
One pic shows the parts and rough assembly. Since this is just a test print, I printed everything on Normal, except the Starfleet pin, which was on Fine. I decided to split the torso piece to save time… with supports, it would’ve taken about 5.5 hrs to print as one piece. It took a little over 3 to print them as pieces. I’ve built model kits all my life, so putting everything together is fun.
Anyway, the other one is the assembled bust that’s been sanded and primed. Got a little lazy and should’ve probably sanded more… but like I mentioned, this is a test print

Oh, and for kicks, thought I’d also post a screenshot of my digital sculpt.
OK, I’ll post more pics as I start printing the final sized bust.
Thanks!

I had one nitpick about that vertical line on jacket, but after googling i realised that belongs there
Do you use just mouse or somethin else?Hopefully Blenders sculpting tools evolve in future and i learn to use them.
26/03/2015 at 6:27 am #17025Thanks @poju - glad you like it.
Haha, the seam at the front of the jacket is kind of odd, but yeah, it’s definitely there. I use a Wacom tablet for sculpting in ZBrush. Just don’t get the same kind of control with a mouse.
Yeah, Blender is so cool. I really like. And I’ve seen some really great sculpts from people using it too, so I think the sculpting tools are almost there. If ZBrush didn’t give free updates, I probably would’ve switch to Blender a long time ago!
26/03/2015 at 4:48 pm #17040Even at normal quality it looks great. Impressive sculpt and print!
27/03/2015 at 6:12 am #17048Thanks @pongoloid - appreciate it!
Yeah, I’m looking forward to printing the final 1/3 scale bust on “Fine”. — haha, hope the printer noise isn’t going to bother the neighbors, because I imagine it’s going to take a LONG time!
