My Robox is a Green Kickstarter Limited Edition

I think I’ve missed announcement that it is out. Or was one there at all?!

I can see it is now in stock: http://cel-uk.com/3d-printer/modules/rbxdv-s1.html

But it price is really high because of Olsson Ruby nozzle. @pete is there an option to get one without that expensive nozzle? Somehow it doesn’t compute to get complex, all singing and dancing dual head for £160 and single (without any extra bits) for £200…

It is certainly possible. Not immediately but as the production ramps up there will be more parts available.

Initial intent for this head was to make abrasive materials accessible but this is pretty specialist and none of us enjoy working with dribble nozzles having had it so easy for so long 😀

The nozzle thread is standard so changing it is easy but we have avoided advertising this because there are critical steps, hot bits and risk of damage to the hardware of both nozzle and block. Olsson ruby installed with too much torque is an expensive mistake. https://support.3dverkstan.se/article/66-the-olsson-ruby-instructions-for-use.

I see. Thanks for the clarification. 🙂 I am aware how expensive nozzle itself is and dangers of tinkering with it…

Also, are there any plans for dual material straight through head, too? (DualX?) Or some optimistic idea how far in the future is it?

No reason to say no to a dual no-needle head, the space is there. The problem is ooze… which is manageable but frustrating since we solved that another way.

Time wise it is hard to say, priorities are software and RoboxPRO right now but both are progressing well.

    Great news!

@pete You mentioned RoboxPRO. Are you referring to assembly of machines or hardware changes? The reason I ask is that I already own one.

Dual straight through head is doable now with Cura 3.3 and Repetier and a custom post processing script Mikes worked on mostly. Mike and I are going to release this as a compiled piece of software with licence key that gets called from Cura. Its not going to be free due to the time invested, but will be at a very attractive price point. The software also fully supports needle valve operation with no safety issues or damage to the head, obviously 3rd party and not supported by CEL.. but we did try to get them involved but they “too busy” for the past 6 months trying to achieve what we already have… doh!

If you have a failed dual head (o ring failure), take it apart and remove the needle valves and block the top hole in the heater block.. small screw will do it. You then have a dual material straight through head for use with Cura when we get round to releasing the software (next few weeks) as we both have full time day jobs too!

@chazr33gtr Sounds interesting. Just to clarify, is Cura going to be called from inside AM or will be be totally standalone?

My understanding is that the easiest would be to completely cut out AM and print directly from Cura. You already can do that if you ‘boot’ Robox in mode were you can send gcode directly through ‘serial over usb’ (serial interface - like many other printers are working). Unfortunately that means computer running Cura through the print and Cura controlling the printer line by line of Gcode.

Alternative is to use rbx from Cura to send completed gcode from Cura to the printer and then you can use rbx or AM to control it (AM can then pause, resume, but not give you estimate how long until end of the print).

Mike (@17bt) and I did that for Simplify3D and it worked well. You can have Simplify3D send print directly to the Robox using rbx and then you can keep rbx to give you some indication of progress (not real time calculation but how far you are through the gcode file) and ability to pause/resume/stop print if something is not right. Plus, if give you feedback of some printer running info like temperatures/status, etc…

@click Thanks for the info. I also had S3D running last year but only with the QuickFill head. Will be interesting to see what the guys come up with for Cura.
