Wish I could get a Laser engraving/cutting head for my Dual!
Been gradually converting a crappy old CTC Makerbot knock-off that I hated, but it’s becoming kind of a PITA.
May 24, 2018 at 8:04 pm #48349@djanszen Hmmm, you mean that famed vaporware that was once the rest of the “Micro Manufacturing Platform”. 😉
Fast forward a few years of inactivity, and you’d be right to think not from CEL for sure, and definitely no CNC capability for that Dual chassis, but there might be a glimmer of hope elsewhere. 🙂
May 24, 2018 at 9:19 pm #48354That seems snarky, mate. I’m sure there’s a lot of engineering involved between the required AM updates and hardware development, while keeping the company going at the same time.
Maybe someone from CEL could lay out its plans for roll outs of other heads.
That said, I can’t imagine there’s any way to deal with the dust and debris from CNC routing on that platform, but the smoke from engraving and laser cutting shouldn’t be too bad.
Another neat one would be a CNC knife for cutting shapes from flat stock.
And if it turns out that there is actually no concrete plan for new heads, perhaps CEL could open up its API and let someone else do it.
May 24, 2018 at 10:01 pm #48355from speaking with CEL I understand (but am happy to be corrected) that this is not in their forward routemap…but as Mike says watch this space.. 😮
Aerospace Engineer with a creative itch being scratched by Robox!
May 24, 2018 at 10:27 pm #48356@djanszen No snarkiness intended, purely factual. The humour was the fact that your Robox is occasionally still marketed as a “Micro Manufacturing Platform” and it has been discussed on the forum before that your two requested features are NOT being developed for the Robox you, me and others have.
Some people are more upset about this than others, but plans change, and the reality is it’d be difficult to get these features to work reliably with the existing chassis, re dust/debris etc as you state, so it was always going to be that way aka “vaporware”.
