Shaun started the topic Printer disappearing from AutoMaker in the forum Technical Support 1 week, 4 days ago
One of my printers will drop out of AutoMaker, and I have to unplug the USB and plug it back in to get it to reappear. Is this a known issue, or is the printer a special little guy?
This has been across multiple versions of AM, multiple Windows installations, and at least two motherboards.

Shaun started the topic Pause on layer, support that touches bed in the forum Feature Request 1 week, 5 days ago
Has anyone requested the pause-on-layer feature lately? I’m also going to formally request a checkbox for supporting the feature that only generates support material that touches the print bed.
Now I have to go find the post that tells me how to hack in the latter.

@enginwiz @simonhoult I know this is noise, but thank you for your efforts.

@pete I really hope you guys get funding. I imagine its frustrating to have ten ideas and only enough resources to slowly implement one of them.

Shaun replied to the topic Screw in back of head carrier in the forum Technical Support 1 month, 3 weeks ago
I guess both of the screws I was using were the older version. The spare was the one that the DM kit replaced (I have two printers, but only one is upgraded). Hopefully @pete will comment on this issue.
Alternatively, I may get the DM kit for the other printer. I’m just not sure I’m up for the expense. For now, because the shaft came out cleanly…[Read more]

The tightening screw in the back of the head carrier has broken twice on me now. The shaft pulls right out of the disc. On the one hand we are told repeatedly to be sure this is tight, but the design allows for this peculiar failure mode.
Anyone else have this problem? I only had an extra because of the DM conversion kit.

Shaun started the topic In other news, polymer bearings in the forum Chatter 2 months, 2 weeks ago
Hey all.
I’m trying out some polymer bearings (Igus RJ4JP-01-08) in my second-hand Robox. I replaced the bearings in the head carrier. It just survived a Speed Test, and the x-axis seems quieter than before. If anyone is curious, I can post any difficulties I have. I will likely forget if everything just goes well.

To whomever positioned the ribbon cable in the back of the head carrier: I do not appreciate the difficulty involved in inserting that cable.
That is the single most frustrating piece of the printer to reinstall. Much cursing, and lithium grease on my hand.

The default settings all slice for me - draft at 20%, normal at 30%, and fine at 40%

Shaun replied to the topic Cancel Parts/Partial Jobs Whilst Continuing The Rest in the forum Feature Request 2 months, 4 weeks ago
It would require modifications to the slicer (which CEL doesn’t have control over), the firmware, and the software. It would actually be reasonably trivial to do, but for now it won’t happen.
You could talk to the Cura developers about the idea… All they have to do is have a list of objects in the header of the gcode, and then delimit the…[Read more]

Someone let me know how it smells while printing. I refuse to print in the old ABS because it made my workspace unlivable.

I was referring to stock for resellers. I didn’t check the main store for stock - the shipping is too steep for me.

I redid the nozzle height calibration and my z numbers are now 0.35 and 0.27
I’ll try the part again and see what happens.

@bhudson This has happened on other prints as well. I was printing a cog in XT and the perimeters came out well, but the infill area was blobbed and I watched the head jumping as it moved over the print. It happens consistently.
I haven’t run the calibration in a while, but I have run it for this head. I just stopped using my 0.8 mm head for…[Read more]

I printed the exact same file twice, first using the unmodified Draft setting then the unmodified Normal setting. The results are below. The Draft print is very rough, and suffered a y-axis skip because of it. The Normal print looks great.
I’ve almost never had successful results from the 0.8 mm nozzle on any of the print heads I’ve used. Can…[Read more]

Shaun replied to the topic Having better software with a preview? in the forum Feature Request 4 months, 3 weeks ago
@murloc992 There would probably have to be buy-in from the Simplify3D folks. I emailed them a while ago and got no response. Automaker uses an old version of Cura right now, and then modifies the g-code afterwards to incorporate the use of the needle valves.
