Anonymousok, answers in turn!
@chrisyt - That print was using 1.00.15 on a beta model (the very first Robox off the production line I believe). It has been back to you guys, but not sure what ‘state’ it’s in between beta and production. I don’t have missing vanes on the print. There are three spinning tops, each with different numbers of vanes. My query was more about blobs and the groove artifact on the thumb holder of the spinners. The thingiverse files are here and I don’t know what size Be3D printed their examples at. I think I printed them at 50% to save time (it was still over an hour). But it’s true that I do wonder about the quality of Sli3cer’s output. There are sometimes also strange “gaps” that are not filled in some layers, even the final surface layer. Is this likely to be a Slic3r or Robox artifact?
@carnivalius - thanks for the explanation. I wonder how other slicers / post processing avoids this? I’d particularly like to try Cura and see if it can generate better output. The problem is Robox’s somewhat unique valve system. It has to post process other slicer output to deal with retractions that (in theory) are not needed on the Robox. Or perhaps they are? Perhaps a little retraction might help with the blobbing & stringy output?

I’m not the only non-beta on the map.
And I don’t see a robox in Birmingham.
Not that I’m going to swim over th e channel to get to the UK for a robox meeting, but it will be a step less sparse on there.Still very strange that the majority active on kickstarter don’t find their way to this forum.
I would expect kickstarter backers for this kind of technology would have a bit more “forum” background.
Where are the 50 beta backers ? Right now their numbers seems to be reduced to a handfull in this forum.I’m encouraged by the fact that now robox is distributed new people show up on the forum,
still puzzled that the great majority didn’t show up here helping to improve robox.Just based on the reactions from backers and CEL, robox isn’t the finished product with the odd unit showing some flaws.
Does that mean a few hundred backers are sitting at home shelving robox (and their investment),
waiting until the weather clears up, or even worse, forgetting day by day about it ?We can only guess.
CEL, what is your impression about all this ?

Anonymous@chrisyt - BTW, big thank you for the roll of ABS, just received it this morning. It’ll be good to get back to doing some ABS prints!
I’ll uninstall and reinstall everything to start from scratch, I can pretty much remember most of my changes to material profiles anyway. Just thinking over what you said about minimum wall or feature thicknesses, is there any way that information could be flagged up to the user?
I appreciate it would add an additional delay, but the user could then be warned from attempting prints that are too small to reproduce correctly?

Rob. On which note: Rob, you didn’t put in your lat/lon so I’ve put in some Google geocoding to make a rough stab at “Staffordshire”. I have no idea how close the pin is, or how close you want it to be.
I’d still recommend lat/lon rather than relying on the first result that Google’s Maps API hands back, but it’s there if anyone wants to use it.

@carnivalius - here is the link to the vase - https://www.dropbox.com/s/nnt5fo92evji0lu/hyperboloid_with_base.stl?dl=0
Would be interested to hear how it works for other people. And any advice you might have on how to improve this.
Thank in advance.

14/10/2014 at 5:50 pm #7898close @gid . . just updated it

@albattros, I spent quite a bit of time trying to print this http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:415553 a while ago. similar type of cel structure . . .gave up in the end, too many blobs and weak structure. My cubepro couldn’t print it either so its a particularly awkward part for FDM printers, perhaps best for SLA or SLS methods.
14/10/2014 at 6:16 pm #7901Re: meetup… Count me in, too! (provided that it is not too far from midlands and it is not clashing with my other things… read ‘allowed’ to sneak out for a day)
Re: map or robox locations - I just never got to invest 5-10 minutes to figure out how to do so
Any tips?14/10/2014 at 6:24 pm #7902@clicky
to get your coördinates, is very easy: go to google maps, right click on the spot you want to know, choose “what’s here”
depending on where you are, you need to put a minus before lat. or lng.Tom Gidden provided a template on this page.
On that same page you find a list of users.
Log in, add yourself in that list (plenty of examples there),
go to your own page, copy the template and fill in.java (EE), JavaFX, HTML, GIS) programmer, database wizard, framework inventor, looking for a job ! http://roboxing.com/wizards14/10/2014 at 6:52 pm #790614/10/2014 at 7:17 pm #7908Yup - now I understand why you don’t have more users on that page!
It did take me 15 minutes to do it all. Fortunately my previous print failed
and started it again so had extra time to play with it. -
