Thanks for that. You’re idea of using Slic3r was a good one. Using that it only printed the support structures (usually an issue with manifolds if an object doesn’t print at all).
I then realised I had not checked the model was actually manifold as I had assumed it was fine. Netfabb agreed, so I’ve now repaired it and left it printing again while…[Read more]

I have run both printjob .gcodes through http://gcode.ws/ and I cannot see an obvious missing of layers. It’s almost like the printer has decided not to open the valve correctly for the outside perimeters.
Anyway I include a dropbox link incase anyone is interested in seeing more or having a delve…[Read more]

So I’ve been using the most up to date version of AM on Cura and while the supports are nice and the time for it to slice objects is really good, I have been noticing that part way through a print it seems like the printer misses perimeters. This leaves little rings round the objects with no perimeter and if the infill is low it’ll just snap…[Read more]

I did try clearing some more purges (I’m using green ABS) and it came out lighter from the 0.3mm nozzle a few purges later, so there might have been some PLA jammed up in there and also not helping things. I was hoping to try again but… the bowden tube blew off and despite trimmings it still comes off so I think the john guest fitting has had…[Read more]

Ah that’s what I have been doing, but the mid print stops still occur.
The exact method is:
Heat the head to 230 deg C (following advice from Chris). I’ve only been using ABS, but the replacement heads always come filled with white PLA.
click open extruder TO, by clicking on the extruder and then on open.
Feed 5 or 20 mm of filament several…[Read more]

True. I may be clearing the blockage by forcing more material through a more open valve. Hopefully it’s some remnant of PLA that wasn’t cleared during my purges when I got it and it’s slowly being gotten rid of. I would be happy with that as I used to print just in FINE quality and it’s something I’m loath to do at the minute.
I’ll have to keep…[Read more]

Interestingly I took the head off and did a few purges and the problem seemed to go away, but did reoccur again yesterday four hours into an 8 hour fine quality print. Not taking the filament out to check it for stripping (every time it seems to be) I instead told the Robox to clean the 0.3mm nozzle and it happily extruded. If the filament was…[Read more]

My old printer was an Ormerod with the extruder mounted away from the head, it worked fine as extraction goes. Not perfect but acceptable prints.

That sounds like it might be it, I was able to eject the filament and it looked stripped. I cut the length off and repeated and the same thing happened. I’ve left the filament in there to see if I re-start a print it can then feed the plastic in (ie the stripped part is a symptom of it not feeding, but isn’t actually stopping the filament being…[Read more]

I’ve tried to print a few things now and it seems that when the print is about 2 or 3 cm off the top of the table it keeps printing but the filament spool is no longer turning (it is free), so the extruder motor doesn’t appear to be pulling any filament. I’ve tried applying pressure by hand to force the filament in (incase it’s stripped), but to…[Read more]

I’m not sure exactly what you’re referring to. Are you saying brown plastic material flows out of a hole that the Cartridge heater sits in?

Ah The stamp was really cool! I have plans to make one too, but it’s combining a laser cutter with the printer. i.e. use the laser to cut foam for the stamp and the printer to make the handle/case. It’s on my busy to do list anyway.

Soo… I’ve been told I can’t keep two printers anymore (pfft who needs a table top), which means my RepRap Ormerod version 1 is going out to pasture. It was one of the first (the red ones) and I believe I still have the certificate that came with it.
It has been modified, it has a metal bed (not an mdf one) and I have a metal boon arm but I…[Read more]

*sad face* I found the issue the print head has a large leakage of green ABS into it above the 0.3mm nozzle *raises hand* ticket please!
i.e. The seal where the needle valve enters the top of the heater block has gone by the looks of it.
Well now I know why it stopped extruding mid print twice and where the ABS went! It looks like silly putty. I…[Read more]

If you’ve not done so, it’s always recommended to calibrate the nozzles and then the nozzle height calibration (taking the plastic bed sheet off so it can touch the firmer metal bed). Both of these options can be accessed via the advanced menu on the status display (click the three grey dots). That might help.

I’ve found the issue a seal has gone above the 0.3mm nozzle and filled the head with ABS plastic. I’ve put a support ticket in.

@biscuitlad My failed prints do have lines across the surface like filament has kept extruding. Actually since attempting those prints (and despite cleaning the nozzle and calibrating them several times) the 0.3mm nozzle keeps extruding when its infront of the rubber wiper blade for a short while when switching to the big nozzle. It never did that…[Read more]

So before the printer starts printing it always extrudes some filament infront of the rubber wiper blade with each nozzle. However whenever it does the small nozzle then moves back to switch to the larger nozzle it continues to ooze which then catches behind the rubber wiper blade when the head moves back.
I’ve recalibrated the head twice and it…[Read more]

@biscuitlad So… I had a go at printing those spinners at 50% mine struggles with the vanes, they crumble (I think they are just too close to the minimum nozzle size). I think it also causes my small nozzle to jam as my two attempts stopped extruding part way through. Not at the exact same layer for each mind.
