Hi @Pete,
It would really make our job easier if there was a way for us to hook into AutoMaker, that was a bit less ‘hacky’ than the current system. While the current system works (at least on a mac), there has been a bit of reverse engineering going on to try to figure out what data is being sent to and from the old CuraEngine executable.…[Read more]

@simonhoult, the current status is as follows:
Mac port: Beta status, several users have reported success with this system. It’s working quite well for me and others. I am getting better results with this port than the original software.
Windows port: Not currently working, we’re sorting through some issues with this.
Linux port: Untested, p…[Read more]

@benraay have you made a .bat file that would work? Good to hear that you’re getting close with the C++ solution.

Has the batch file you’ve got been checked into git?
I’d love to give it a strict talking to.

Amazing work there @benraay, I feel that a solution is close.
Does this page help with your search?

@thirty6, we’re stuck because all three of the development team use macs 🙂
I downloaded a later version of windows to use in an emulator, so will be giving this a go soon.

@17bt, Yes I really don’t recommend slicing outside of AM. What happens then is that you don’t use the AM macros to level the bed / purge, and it won’t control the needle valves properly.
It may be possible to create some profiles / scripts for slic3r that reverse engineer the existing postprocessing script, however we’re a fair way away from…[Read more]

Hey @pete,
Thanks for the explanation. Can you please let me know what the ejection volume for the 0.4mm nozzle should be? Back of the envelope calculations say that it should be 0.53, is this correct?
My issue is that when using the default settings, the start of printing tends to be very underextruded. You can see this in the attached im…[Read more]

Good stuff Mike, I’m pleased that it’s working for you. Perseverance pays off!
Out of interest, what ejection volume value are you using at the moment? To get this to work, you need to create a custom profile in AM, set the ejection volume there, then when printing in AM you need to choose that profile. Obviously then it gets sent to Sl…[Read more]

Hi Pete,
Thanks for the explanation. I still don’t think that it’s working correctly though.
I’m not printing tiny towers, this is a calibration part that I designed. I’ve attached the stl. The problem here is when doing the wall (it’s all walls). This wall is 36mm long, and 0.8mm thick. It’s designed to test how well the slicer hand…[Read more]

I’ve been trying to figure out a persistent issue with the start of a line, when printing at low layer heights. I thought that changing the ejection volume might help with this (and it does). However when looking at the GCode that this creates, I noticed something really strange.
Original code:
G1 X103.300 Y84.800 E0.01288 ; perimeter

Could it be either a dodgy USB cable, or a dodgy USB connector (physical) on the printer?
Have you tried replacing the cable?

After several tests, I’ve found that on my printer (dual material head), the magic number for priming the nozzle before printing is -3.0.
This releases some of the pressure that was set when doing the initial purge.
Perhaps this number belongs more in the purge macro, than the prime macro, but hey at least it works I guess.
I hope this helps…[Read more]

Thanks for the confirmation Mike!
The nice thing about a community like ours where we’re all running the same hardware, is that settings are transferable. My other printers (reprap style) are special little snowflakes that all demand individual tuning.

I didn’t make it, but here you go.
It tests a few areas quite well, and doesn’t use much filament per test (which I really like)

Hey @click, does yours have a dual material head?
Or a single material head?
-
nebbian replied to the topic Over extrusion at the beginning of the printing in the forum Technical Support 1 week, 5 days ago
That’s very possible @click, I’m using ABS exclusively. I can imagine that stiff PLA may require more pressure.
I’m using Robox brand ABS (designer grey) at 245degrees, with the bed at 125 degrees for the first layer.
What are your settings?

Thanks for that @pete,
Exactly what I was looking for. Well, I didn’t know that it was available to tinker with, but now I do! I can understand the defaults erring on the side of overextrusion after a prime, but I think it can be dropped a bit.
I’ll do some tests and let you know some numbers that work well for me.

nebbian replied to the topic Over extrusion at the beginning of the printing in the forum Technical Support 2 weeks ago
@kamil1, mine always does this as well. I believe it’s to do with the priming code that happens at the start of the print, the extruder really pushes the filament out of the nozzle hard, then the needle valve closes with a lot of stored pressure in the bowden tube.
When the print starts, you still have a lot of pressure in the bowden, so the…[Read more]
