Replacing Automaker

Hey easy before you cut me down =)

..was just wondering if i can use CURA instead of AM aka Slic3r(dev) or other gcode generating software?
I read so much bad stuff about Slic3r… Are there some example cases of prints with “other” Software on the Robox?

As I understand CEL is working on such replacement for a while now. I wouldn’t be surprised if next release of AM has it.

I don’t think replacing one slicer with another is straightforward matter (as for instance, replacing Slic3r 1.1.3 with 1.1.5/1.1.7 or even 1.2 is). It is quite possible that AM is relying on Slic3r comments at the moment…

Did I mention that I would gladly reprogram Slic3r into pure java code if I had decent documentation about it ?

i will let you know about my programming kickstarter.

We virtualized code and made it self creating realtionships of dependencies. All Browser controlled no refresh 100% javascript 100% unhighjackable 100% hackable

This subject really doesn’t fit the forum anymore, but I’m interested in what you have done.
And no, I don’t understand if for now, sounds still to abstract.

In a reply to a ticket I created for the under extruding PLA issue I got this as part of the reply from Chris:

We are hoping this is resolved in the next version of Slic3r, but we’re also currently testing Cura as a slicing engine alternative, and this could be available in the next release of AutoMaker.

So they are definitely working on it, it’s just a matter of time 🙂 I also asked when we can expect a next version of AM and didn’t get a reply yet so no news there.
