My Robox is a Blue Commercial Version

New Robox, not even a week old. I have a problem trying to address in another forum post. I’m sorry to bother you guys again.

I noticed all of a sudden my Head EEPROM doesn’t show a ”Unique ID” anymore. So I powered the Robox down (in the proper way) and removed the USB cable. Booted it up again… But nada… So I’m thinking there might be a bad pogo pin connection. No sweat, I eject the filament and for the first time ever removed the head.

I noticed a couple of, in my mind, odd things…

    1. There is metal dust on the head mount, where the metal contact touches the top horizontal gantry rod. It was worse before I took the attached pictures. There is also metal dust on the belt at the left side of the head and on the one end of wide V-shaped plastic ‘spring’ on the head itself.
    2. On the lower part of the head assembly I found a liquid which seems to be oil? See attached picture.

I cleaned it all off and cleaned the pogo pins and contact pads (ESD safe btw). Reseated the head (simple!) and started everything up again.

Just did a purge which worked. However my head still doesn’t show a Unique ID. I’m 100% sure it did a couple of days before.

So is the metal dust and the oil normal? And how do I get my Unique ID back?

@skullhqx That is actually normal for a printer with about 500-800 hours on it. If your printer was sold new, about how many hours have you printed with it? The metal dust is the copper from the Z+ contact tab wearing down. This may be a open box unit sold as new.

The oil should be cleaned off, but it is normal for some factory batches to have oil here, and you should clean the head contacts and the POGO pins on the head carrier with alcohol also.

There is no way for you to reprogram the unique ID; that can only be done by CEL-UK or the US repair center.

Brand new sealed unit ordered from an official reseller, delivered March 3rd, so less than a week old. Actually it’s my second unit as the first suffered a catastrophic shipping accident the day before and was returned without ever being switched on.

I guess it has about 100hrs on the clock now? 6 days times ±15 hours would about do that. It has used about two half reels of PLA.

Could it be the knob at the back of the head might not have been turned too tightly that has caused this wear? How bad is it?

@skullhqx That is excessive wear for a brand new unit and I highly doubt it was brand new sealed with that much wear on the tab.

The knob on the back does not control the tension and it cannot be too tight. It can be too loose, causing issues, but it cannot be too tight. The head spring is what controls the tension and if it were stiff enough to cause that much wear after 100 hours, you would see issues with the head pushing the bed down and a lot of issues getting a good nozzle height calibration.

    Defiantly open a ticket.

    Submitted. Thanks for your help.

I hope it will be trivial. This is a company device and it is eating too much of my time as it is.

I’m getting a replacement part shipped. I’ll update when it’s fitted.
