My Robox is a Blue Commercial Version

    Hi Dave

tweaked the settings , I don’t think my bed has been getting hot enough, also reset the head nozzle, as I took it off to clean after a bad print got material everywhere.

All cleaned, re-calibrated many times etc.

How did you get the honey comb effect? on your parts?

    well Dave,
it’s usefull to hear tweaking is unavoidable,
but what I can’t agree on (and nothing you can do about that)
is that there is no guide on how to customize parameters for a model.

The printer is no magic box, it’s all pure maths and physics,
I expect (hopefully from CEL, but to be realistic from robox users)
clear instructions, not a “trial and error” path and “build up experience” attitude.

@pelgrim “The printer is no magic box, it’s all pure maths and physics,”

    And chemistry, of course! :)

Yes, I agree that it would be nice. That’s why we are here - to share those errors (and trials) and most importantly experiences.

Please, all, don’t forget roboxing.com wiki to off load some of your experience, to. Unlike forum where things just fly by and old topic nobody remembers any more and new users never read whole forum before asking same questions again and again - wiki is more structure and less noise (like this)…

I noticed also about 3/4 through I get an offset or step in the x,y plane also starts blobbing etc..

Any ideas what causes this? This was done on draft quality!

Maybe you should inspect gcode to make sure it is not a ‘slicer’s gift’.

Sorry new to this what am I looking for?

    slicer’s gift! in gcode!

@3peakslite: Are you using the new version of AM with Cura? It looks like you are using the old version with Slic3r. Just choosing draft will never work with the bracelet model (that’s why you have the solid infill in the center instead of a hole, you need to print with 1 perimeter, no infill, no top and no bottom) and I never got it to print right in Slic3r due to it’s bugs so you might want to retry with the new version of AM for this model. The honeycomb infill is a setting in custom profiles for infill, try it out, it’s not that hard! While there just create a custom profile with 0.30 layer height only using the 0.3 nozzle for the bracelet, the 0.8mm nozzle is just too big for these small details.

@pelgrim: A guide would be nice but every model got it’s own perfect settings, I don’t think there’s a way to have a guide for every type of model but a decent explanation of the tweak-able parameters would be nice for people uncomfortable with just trying stuff out ;)

It’s not a magic box but there are many factors that influence your print; Material, calibration, nozzle temperature, bed temperature, ambient temperature, cooling, the slicer, slicing settings, the model itself, whether you need supports or not, infill needed for strength or filament saving, etc. All these combinations make it impossible to create a “one-setting-fits-all” profile, the best they can do is create a profile for the most common use-cases and materials and a good explanation of what the custom profile settings do. I should add some info to Roboxing, tried it last time but couldn’t find a way to register or something (found it now and registered) but I agree, just haven’t gotten around to do that yet :)

I’ll start a topic around which parameters in a model can influence print parameters and gather them in a robox page.
Building an inventory is always the first step.

@dave You are right about each model having different settings, but we’re still struggling with more in depth explanation what is average result in increasing/decreasing each parameter. Currently most people rely only on intuition. More detailed guide with explanations like:

“if you increase filament_multiplier you might start seeing blobs, X and Y measurements wider, holes filled and with smaller diameter than expected, but if you decrease filament_multiplier more than needed you’ll see gaps, mini extrusion keeping filament on the nozzle, layers missing sections…”

Over time and many eyes looking and correcting it we might amass bits of knowledge how to change parameters given problems. Which is another way of setting up matrix. Like:

“Problem: holes with smaller diameters or really small holes filled in - probably over-extrusion - see filament_multiplier for given material.”

Now, you might even correct me on the spot - my understanding of filament_multiplier might not be 100% correct…
