Zach, that’s the best and most honest advice I read so far in this topic, and I totally agree:
it would be irresponsible from CEL to produce and sell more robox units until the promisses are fulfilled.
We kickstarters took the risk and move along with development, that was the bargain, new customers that pay the full price should not go through that.java (EE), JavaFX, HTML, GIS) programmer, database wizard, framework inventor, looking for a job ! http://roboxing.com/wizards24/11/2014 at 5:12 pm #10196Hi @garrett777 had my printer for a few weeks now had a little problem with print bed not being flat enough but that was sorted out by CEL and i now have a replacement, i am happy with the build quality of the printer, it is fairly robust and proper maintenance should mean it will last a good few years.
As for print quality i have only had a chance to do a couple of prints so far using standard settings and they have come out very nice once the calibration has been done, yes there are a few things that are not right yet i.e. bridging is not working and supports are to thick but these are all software issues and are being worked on and the quality of all prints should improve.
So if you don’t mind playing with your machine and not doing supports or bridges for a little while and wait for updates i would say go for it, if you want a finnished machine with fully working software i would say either wait a bit or this may not be the printer for you. For me this is the right printer even with the software as it is the prints are so much cleaner than what i have seen from other printers ( no stringy bits ) and i know it is going to get so much better than what it is at the moment.
Hope that helps. let us know what you decide n happy printing folks
24/11/2014 at 6:39 pm #10203I got mine back and it wouldn’t calibrate again initially, but after almost a dozen attempts it did (something still seems to be up with it but I’ll have to take bhusdson’s advice on scrubbing the contact rail if it happens again). It’s printing a simple object at the moment and, fingers crossed, it looks good.
Not too happy with not being a beta tester and my printer thus far having spent more time in Portishead than it has actually printing for me but I’m ever hopeful that in a week or so I’ll be happier with it.
