I am very happy with the NGEN wires, but something does not go with the NGEN SILVER METALLIC
The layers do not hold well and seems brittle
Perhaps it comes from the “metallic gray” coloring product that is incorporated into the plastic
Has anyone noticed a problem?
31/01/2017 at 4:19 am #36483@teleporteur I have not seen this behavior. It seems to be the same performance as other nGen filaments in my use.
I operate two Betas and one Production Robox.
I am the US/Canada Technical Support engineer for the Robox.
See my 3D Hub site at https://www.3dhubs.com/phoenix/hubs/ben31/01/2017 at 9:38 am #36494@teleporteur I believe this could be due to moisture absorption - despite colorFabb saying that XT/nGen do not absorb water, they have switched to zip lock bags and now use silica gel in their own packaging. E3D - makers of Edge (another PETg/Co-polyester) suggest in a blog that it is hygroscopic, and that this moisture causes hydrolysis on heating. This hydrolysis causing the polyester chains to break into smaller sections, leading to a reduction in mechanical properties. More info here:
Have you been storing your material in the included bag when not in use?
31/01/2017 at 9:02 pm #36558the spool is new just came out of his bag …
I will still do some testing, I would inform youIf one looks at the colorfabb video on the production it is seen that the color is added to the mixture at the time of the extrusion of the wire, perhaps this dye that makes shine like metal fragilizes the pastic
31/01/2017 at 9:30 pm #36560Colorfabb Ngen has to be bone dry to print properly.
Put your spool in a Ziploc bag with fresh silica gel for two days.
Ngen silver metallic will print beautifully after that.
31/01/2017 at 9:30 pm #36561The edge filament works well with the robox ??
01/02/2017 at 8:42 am #36572@teleporteur yes, there is no reason why Edge would not work with Robox - it’s PETg based, and is therefore very similar to XT/HT/nGen/T-Glase amongst others. It’s not officially supported so there is no included profile in AutoMaker, and you will also have to use a separate reel stand and custom profile - but yes, it will work great. It may take some experimentation with print parameters, but if you use XT as a starting point, you should have no problems.
