I’ve noticed that ColorFabb sell their filaments on 750gm reels but at the same price that CEL charge for a 240gm reel of the same filament. I would expect a mark-up for resell and even an allowance for the smart reel technology, but this does seem a rather big difference. It’s true that in order to use a smart reel even if buying filament direct on ColorFabb reels, it is necessary to reload the filament onto a smart reel. But with the Netherlands being part of the EU, the UK eventually leaving the EU and possibly being subject to higher tariffs, plus the considerably lower value of the £, any savings that can be made are worth looking at.
I prefer the convenience of buying filament loaded onto smart reels direct from CEL and simply loading them onto the printer. But the amount of filament I now use and the offer of a ColorFabb gift card from my sister in the USA, has made me re-examine where I can make savings. The only possible disadvantage that I can see is that 750gm of filament takes longer to use up and therefore optimum storage conditions are even more important. But I can easily use three 240gm reels in a month and with 750gm bought directly from ColorFabb I would only pay a third of the price.
