On the dual filament Robox, it won’t let me perform a purge until I have loaded both reels. Then I can choose which nozzle to purge. But then when I load a file to print and am only using one reel, it ejects the other one. So what is the reason behind needing to load both reels in order to purge, when only one is being used?

Also I notice that the purge pattern has changed and each line now butts up against the previous one (on a single reel purge). Since this doesn’t use any less filament and the travel of the printhead extends all over on big prints, what’s the advantage?

After pressing purge do you see this screen with the DM head? It should only require the ticked materials.

@pete Yes, that’s fine and that does appear on the screen. It’s just that if I only have one reel loaded and then press purge, it won’t proceed. I have to load both reels even if I’m only using just one, then uncheck the reel I will not be using.

It’s not a problem and I’m not highlighting it as anything wrong. It’s just that the unused reel still has to be loaded to the print head, otherwise I can’t do the purge. Then when I start to print using just one reel, it ejects the other telling me that it’s not required.

There definitely seems to have been significant improvements in how the Robox works now. So obviously behind the scenes in the software, things are happening of which I don’t know the detail. I have to confess that the frequency of stuck or slipping filament in the past, was such that I could not leave the Robox alone. But since buying the DM version last November, I have had no problems (touch wood!) and the quality has greatly improved.

I’ve just printed around forty articulated print-in-place slugs and given them to the kids in my area and their friends. I’ve just printed several print-in-place skulls, that open as a box, which will be given out for Halloween, and I’m working on 3D printed models for Christmas cracker inserts. So it’s all going well.

PS: I have printed the files you gave me of the cavity frame for creating a cover and that fits nicely. It doesn’t sag as I had thought. Of course this is just for the single Robox and I have to adjust the files to cover two reels for the DM Robox.
