hey people, im new to the forum and hoping one of the robox guru’s can help me out.

I bought a used robox from ebay about 3 months ago, everything seems fine apart from the occasional filament slip, but the guy i bought it from said he had it for 6 months before me.

<span style=”line-height: 1.5;”>Basically the nozzles etc have a black type of coating on them and doesnt look to clean so i was wondering if there is a guide on how to strip and overhaul the head as i would like to keep it running smoothly till i can get it converted for dual filament.</span>

Any help will be much appreciated and as simple as possible as im not to good with technical jargon lol

    1. If u zoom in on the picture attached you can see the black coating on the tip

To clean the nozzles you can:

    1. eject the filament
    2. heat the nozzles using the gcode command m104
    3. turn the power off
    4. remove the head while hot (beware of hot nozzles)
    5. clean the nozzles using some something that wont damage the PTFE coating or if it is really stuck on you can go to a brass bristled brush or a blade to scrape at tough bits.
    6. replace the head
    7. power on
    8. read the warning about turning the power off while the head is hot. Don’t turn the power off while the head is hot while filament is loaded as it can swell and get jammed.

@grgladwin You can continue to use your Robox with the black buildup. It will not affect the printer or the print quality. The only drawback to it is that you may see the nozzle catch the minipurge and pull it into the print more often. Most of my print heads look like this after a few months and I don’t bother cleaning them unless it seems to be affecting print quality.

Eventually this black covering will become permanent as you run longer prints and you will not be able to clean it off.

Please note that any disassembly of the print head will likely damage the print head and it will not be repairable or will be expensive to repair.

To add to the instructions that @pete provided, you will also need to enable Advanced Mode under Preferences -> Advanced in order to use the g-code commands. You will need to input the nozzle target temperature, which should be the print temperature for the last filament you have loaded. I do not recommend heating the nozzle more than once or twice with ABS or PLA being the last material used due to the possibility of degrading the material remaining in the print head.

I operate two Betas and four Production Robox.
