For anyone looking to reproduce this:
Worth noting that it isn’t the Pocket T-Rex skull, but rather The T-Rex Skull (link: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:308335).
The pocket one is scaled much smaller and fits in the build volume fine without any modifications. Slic3r has trouble with very fine features in such a small model. In contrast,…[Read more]

@Ian I’m going to assume you’ve got those backwards

Also, looks like I should update my Slic3r…

(To head off the obvious question, yes I’ve redone both nozzle height and opening calibrations prior to the purge shown above. They’re correct.)

I recently began experimenting with my Kickstarter Robox. I’m impressed with the hardware and its potential, but I’m plagued by the fact that the filament from the 0.3 mm nozzle does not extrude… cleanly. It comes out the nozzle and immediately turns, making “squiggles” instead of lying down. This happens with both PLA and ABS, as shown in…[Read more]

I’ve done a bunch of test clips and managed to get close, but not quite there to the factory settings. It’s pretty clear the factory test print settings don’t match any of the standard profiles.
I am fairly certain the layer height on the factory clip is 0.3 mm.
The fill is 0%
Perimeters is 3
Nozzle used is the smaller 0.3 mm nozzle…[Read more]

Probably the most useful first print is to duplicate the retaining clip printed as the final test of your device when it rolled off the assembly line after passing all of CEL’s tests.
The stl was made available earlier this week in a different thread (sorry no link I’m on my phone), and instead of comparing photos you can compare actual objects…[Read more]

physicsmajor replied to the topic Units out there working as intended? in the forum Chatter 3 months, 1 week ago
It boils down to if expectations are met or not. When people get something and it works fine, the majority will continue on their merry way; people see forums as more for tech support than community building.
You see this with online reviews, too. A bunch of early, worthless 5-stars and some valid but perhaps overblown complaints. But the middle…[Read more]

It’s pretty simple to figure this after the slicing is complete. The GCode knows exactly how much linear material it’s expecting to extrude, just multiply by the cross-sectional area of a 1.75mm circle to get volume. From there you just need the density of the chosen plastic, which should be known.

On the order of 350 units went out.
The Tech Support forum has a total of 17 threads, only 9 of which have been active since production units have been received. At least one or two of those are leftover from a modified beta unit, and several have been addressed more or less as user error.
The answer is “the vast majority, obviously.”
This type…[Read more]

@chrisyt - bravo! Thanks for the clarification, and the peek at the path forward.

The follow-up question, if this is an absolute setting/offset value, would be: Does one need to set the nozzle height differently (correctly calibrated) for different layer heights?
I’d think 20 microns would definitely need a different height cal than 100… unless it’s actually a pressure delta as previously speculated.

Interesting - Per the name “nozzle height cal” I figured this was an absolute value. If it’s in fact a relative pressure, then I agree with @gid that the actual thickness doesn’t matter.
I have several sets of feeler gauges, but they’re all metal. If a specific value was required, I figured I’d just hit different cards with calipers until I found…[Read more]

I’ve got business cards of various thicknesses from different people - some like slightly thicker paper, some very robust approaching cardboard.
Something a little less subjective might be helpful, if this is a crucial setting. Seems there is enough variance in the business cards I’ve seen to potentially explain differing user results.

It boggles the mind that what you linked to is apparently Makerbot’s “state of the art.”
That’s just a disaster, full of entirely subjective fiddly bits. The Robox video further up is how I intuitively expected a professional machine to operate.
I have a friend who went with a Makerbot after I told them about the Robox, and they’ve…[Read more]

The pyramid is extremely impressive. I’d heard some speculation that 20um might have physical constraints for FFF, but that shows the potential is definitely there!
I look forward to experimenting with slicing/pathing at this level of detail.
