I have modified my printer to handle very flexible rubbery filament. This mod makes it very simple to quickly load and feed NinjaFlex or Poly Flex.
I drilled a hole into the filament guide just before the entrance to the extruder and another hole in the protective side cover. I stick the filament in this hole and the printer immediately picks it up and feeds it in. It really works well.
This works so well I would encourage CEL to consider this on the next version of the printer.

Damn Solid DesignDecember 1, 2016 at 1:02 am #34827I also have the flexible filament extruder version, so I don’t know if the regular extruder would work as well or not.
This mod drastically shortens the path between your fingers and the extruder gear. It is also a straight line.

Damn Solid DesignDecember 1, 2016 at 1:04 am #34828The little hole in the filament guide housing is 1.8MM and the hole in the side cover is I think 6MM.

Damn Solid DesignDecember 1, 2016 at 4:16 pm #34856@heartlander I have seen some problems where any extra tension on the flex filament causes the diameter to shrink and the extruder can’t push the filament any more. I would be hesitant to try this mod because of that issue. Even the extra tension from filament that is slightly stuck together is enough to make my printer skip with NinjaFlex.
@pelgrim You haven’t seen my printers.
I operate two Betas and four Production Robox.
I am the US/Canada Technical Support engineer for the Robox.

Damn Solid DesignDecember 3, 2016 at 4:55 pm #34911And I also prefer PolyMaker PolyFlex to NinjaFlex, on my Robox and HICTOP direct drive printer. PolyFlex and Low Warp ABS from Push Plastics are my two new best friends.
Yeah, I really need to get out more.
