I believe I damaged the 0.8mm nozzle during the Automaker upgrade, but all the prints since have only required the 0.3mm nozzle because the walls are very thin. So I decided to print a more complex part such as this vase. However the original file was too big for the Robox and I had to reduce it by 26%. So once again it didn’t need the 0.8mm nozzle. I don’t want to talk too soon, but the early problems I had with filament not sticking, parts slipping half way through and filament losing location towards the end, all seem to have gone away. This vase has printed perfectly. It’s a pity that I am restricted to 4inches high by the printing envelope, but otherwise everything is fine.

    @smitty Here’s the link

It took seven hours to print. The file actually comes with a brim but I added some more and decided to leave it in situ.

@paulsroom looks good what material did you print with.

@streatsi I’ve used ABS Polar White which I’ve bought from CEL. I’ve read various posts about ABS shrinking and after my initial teething problems with the filament not sticking to the bed, I began to wonder if in fact the material was the problem and I should simply switch to other materials - there’s a big range of them. But when I printed a spinning top - see elsewhere in ‘show us your bits’ - the result was perfect.

I didn’t like the colour of the green ABS that came with the printer and Polar White is neutral and allows me to add colour externally, which I intend to do in ABS relief highlight using a 3Doodler pen.

I will probably try out other materials but ‘works straight out of the box’ to me means just that. I don’t want to find that having bought a ready built 3D printer, that I then have to make a whole load of adjustments to get it working okay. There’s no doubt that the AutoMaker upgrade has achieved some major improvements.

@paulsroom i have had very good success with abs as its the main material i have used, initally the green robox abs (i have been surrounded by green parts for some time now..) and then i got some white from another supplier as robox didn’t have material at the time. see the images at the biottom of this page for a similar vase i did before christmas:

have also had good prints with Taulman Tglaze and just took delivery of some colorfabb

i didn’t get on well with the robox white pla as always gave me problems but the new am and abs is working a treat now apart from my head having now sprung a leak so waiting to hear back from support on that

that’s exactly the reason why I didn’t print with my unit until now.
I read, try to be constructive, and be very patient.
But I have the impression around now would be a good time for me to start printing,
I hope to be more at home and then I will give it a try.

For me the ultimate goal is to be able to recycle PET with the long awaited strooder
and use that produced filament with robox.
If that works I’m a very happy customer.

@pelgrim I’ve got my eye on the strooder myself but ill wait until some reviews of it surface ,want to wait to see if its worth buying or not

I let you know, I’m very patient with robox because of the software that needs to develop,
with strooder it’s a very simple story: it creates quality filament or not.

@pelgrim yeah i know what you mean ,hopefully it will do a good job ,all we need now is a kickstarter for a machine to rip up old prints and discarded plastics ,then were all sorted to be self-sufficient

smitty Glad the print turned okay for you. I’ve made another two and have one more to make as I’m giving them as gifts. I do actually have a reel of PLA, but I chose shocking pink (for some reason) and it’s a rather dramatic. The Ploar White is neautral and is more accommodating in peoples’ rooms. I’m rather reluctant to change materials when everything is working okay - I now have the consistency I was struggling for at the start.
