It should have been a normal back to the work after weekend. But it was not…

    Let’s start from beginning…

My college at work asked me to print a simple cylinder and a cube. He wanted to use it for his research job on the radiation dose then it had to be 100% fulfilled. I set setting and I saw around 52h of printing time at 0.3mm layer height. I thought it did not matter it was a weekend then plenty of time to go. I started and went to home.

And came Morning…I opened the door to my lab and I saw this…Pic1 and 2 Whoow. I contacted the support. They said me that I won a price for the worst print failures 😀 I took a big coffee and I started to clean this mess. I do not give up easy 🙂

After 4h of cleaning just before my lunch break I got this results Pic 3 and 4. Pretty nice after all what happened 🙂 However, the head did not work correctly…No light, no heat…Again I did not say the last word 🙂 I opened it again, check all wires, clean electronics, put back together and it s alive again!!! I have done with this head 1.1k hours of printing so far and still is doing 🙂

The results of that failure I put on the wall. I called it “Regularity in the chaos” all rights reserved 😀 Look at the Pic5. Everybody likes it 🙂

Have a positive vibrations or printings 🙂

that is a pretty good one 🙂 Great work getting all that cleaned up and working again.

    Lesson 1:

Clean the print surface and watch the first layer. Restart as needed. Thank the design gods for the fast bed heatup on Robox. Other people wait at least 15 mins to see a first layer.

    Lesson 2:

If the material is prone to shrinkage, close the door. If not keep it open.
    eg
    PLA, PETG door open
    ABS, NYLON door closed

    Lesson 3:

    Patience pays off.

It happened somewhere in the middle of the print. My guess was the moving PEI plate. I had had it before. I fixed it and I will see. I have already mentioned it somewhere but could you make PEI plate a bit longer that it will not have much space to move? I have about 5mm gap between the edge of the PEI plate and fixations. If they lose again I will have again movement.

5mm is a lot. If I push my build plate into the front left corner I can get maybe 1.2mm of space between the black frame and the right edge and less than 1mm on the rear edge. The metal clips are only pressing down.

Perhaps you can take a photo? Share it with support in a ticket if you can’t share it here.

I am sorry I wanted to write 1.5mm. I forgot to add 1. The maximum I have is around 2mm, it is close to the corner. I was thinking to reduce it close to 0.5mm or even less as the max difference. Another thing could be to make kind of the slider limiter that will push the plate and make it blocked? Just idea?

@kamil1 that is impressive, and the cleaning process looks extremely good, plus you didn’t break anything either.

I often wondered if the PEI sheet could use its flexibility in a lateral way, like pips added with slight slots made inside this, so they sprung and gripped the side of the bed, would take up the slack and absorb any expansion. I’m sure you could water cut them out, or use a laser. 🙂
