If I take the “Normal” print profile and change the nozzle to .8 for first layer and the following layers, I thought it would make for a quicker print.
However the estimated time for the real normal is 4.25 and the estimated time for the .8 profile is 4.48, how does that work? The first layer alone must surely print faster?

It is nice to know that we can run faster, but that is not what I was talking about. using a .3 nozzle to lay down the slow first layer does not help a part to get finished quicker surely.
Yesterdays job using the 03 nozzle took 40 minutes to lay the first layer, I would have thought this could be much shorter using the 08 nozzle but tne estimated time did not show that. Bit confusing.
September 16, 2018 at 6:56 am #49304I don’t rely upon the Automaker timings, I use them as an indicator only
Am currently printing a test piece, estimates 23 mins on normal, but when I initiate the print says 19 mins
Periodically printer pauses to hear or cool the head which can’t be factored into estimates
None of the above fully explains the lack of difference you are seeing between the 0.3 and 0.8 nozzles though

http://www.247guardian.co.uk/September 16, 2018 at 5:25 pm #49309@nigelberry The first layer nozzle selection can be changed by making a new print profile. The 0.3 nozzle and the speed was set to promote the best first layer adhesion. Older profiles used the 0.8 mm nozzle and used faster speeds, so you can certainly play around with it. I would start with the Normal profile, do a Save As, and then adjust the settings of the extrusion width and the speed until you are happy with it.
The first layer speed is probably the highest time contributor to your print time. It is currently set for 8 mm/s, if you increase this it will print faster, though you may not get as good first layer adhesion depending on your material.
