Hi CEL and everyone
I have been seeing in a few threads lately that people are concerned with the printing height, adjusting the design to split the feature and bond the two sections together. This does not concern me, it is relatively straightforward to add fixings into design and im sure there will be support on here.
With the requirement to bond sections together, my issue would be selection, application and flashing etc. So why not adapt the current extruder to turn it into a sort of precision glue gun. The adhesive would need to be applied at speed then the user would quickly attach the part.

We use super glue a lot in making our prototype parts. There is special glue that doesn’t set too fast, you have time to move parts around a bit then you spray activator onto it.
Something like this glue.

Combined with this activator.

ABS works very well with super glue.16/01/2014 at 12:45 pm #1450
AnonymousThe problem with all cyanoacrylate based glues is that they tend not to be waterproof, or that strong TBH.
I started using plumber’s PVC pipe weld. There are lots of brands that state they are suitable for ABS. This type of glue is cheap, 100% reliable, strong and waterproof where plastic is concerned. You have to have tight fittings, and the glue slightly “melts” the surfaces of the plastic so you need to wipe the excess off sharply. On a tight fitting you get a few minutes to align stuff. You can handle it in 10-15mins. It’s waterproof after a day.
Of course, don’t take a deep sniff of the bottle or for that matter work with it a long time in a confined space! :-0
16/01/2014 at 4:56 pm #1453I completely agree with buscuitlad. The only thing super glue is good at is bonding skin. Single we all plan to slice our models and glue them together after printing, there should be a thread just for glue reviews.
10/08/2016 at 7:02 pm #32149maybe add a special chemical to filament that acts as a glue when heated….
would result in better layer bonding….12/08/2016 at 1:08 am #3216819/08/2016 at 8:04 am #32226I am using Acrifix 1S 0116 to glue ABS parts (technical datasheet). It has a very low viscosity and I’m using it for flat surfaces. Very good results.
