The cutting knife head has already been discussed and obviously has good prospects. If you’d combine that with a motorized roll holder, you could cut banners out of self-adhesive foil!

    Two difficulties:

    • keep the cutting area of the banner under tension (two rubberized, motorized roll bars with a distance?)
    • find a supplier for foil rolls which fit the narrowness of the Robox opening

The roll holder motor could be controlled by hijacking the print-bed I/O (hope there’s an accessibly connector).

I guess it would be smart, if the roll holder for the source material would be located outside the Robox (in front of it or underneath), so there is no limitation on the roll diameter and thus banners can be „endless“.

There are other options available for this kind of feature - cutters from Silhouette seem to do a pretty good job, and with a larger footprint to boot.

    Silhouette

Not an apple to apple comparison since the technology is different, but the non-preorder price of the dual material head at £199.90 costs more than both cutters on the Silhouette website.

I like this idea, attached is a pic of Robox on the desk beside me with the back panel off. The plugs for the motors are all quite easily accessible.

One of the best known foil manufacturers with an huge product range is Orafol. It shouldn’t be a big deal for them to provide rolls in a Robox compatible width.

The standard widths at Orafol are 1260, 1000, 914, 756, 630, 500, 466, 378 mm as you can see here. One could ask the supplier to cut the 466 in half (if 233 would fit as well) or the 630 mm roll into 3 parts. Anyhow, we need a tractor solution / feeder incl. Software first :)
