Hi Folks,
I am having a number of problems with my printer. I have managed to fix a few, but some are driving me nuts. I hope someone out there can help me out.
Problems in no particular order:
1) The extruder keeps stripping the filament and stops feeding when I use ABS, PLA seems fine. I tightened the tensioners on the extruder and it ended up popping the bowden tube out. I realized that I should have gone loose and let it slip a little.
2) The bowden tube keeps popping out. I cut a bit off the end, but it still wont stay (Picture attached because I think its a good picture). I dont think I can cut much more off the tube so I “fixed” that problem with an M2.5 nut and a hand full of zip ties.
3) My bed wont heat past 115. It did at first, but not any more. I had to change my profiles or the print would never start.
4)Every so often I get a layer that puts out way to much material. I am using the fine setting because it is much worse in the normal setting. (Picture attached)
5) Sometimes the Y axis will be way off. It just goes off once and then stays off (Picture attached) . This example is off by 3mm
I know I have some hardware issues and I am willing to fix those, but Am I also having problems with my slicer? Does anyone else have these problems? Has anyone found any work-arounds/suggestions for a slicer that works?
Thanks for any help you can give.

4) with existing software you should change filament multiplier down to 0.9 or 0.85 - it will then stop over-extruding.
5) Maybe your PEI bed is not secured properly? It seems that it moved during the print.
Slicer problems are supposed to be fixed in incoming new software release.
29/12/2014 at 1:43 pm #12697@clicky could something be stopping the chain from moving ,i.e. a bit of debris from a past print ,i had i minor issue where the bed skipped on a print and when i inspected the robox a tiny bit of abs had jammed in the chain causing the bed not to move properly ?
smitty29/12/2014 at 2:27 pm #12709To be honest - no idea! I am all but mechanical engineer! I decided (long time ago, when I was 12-13 years old) that computers and programming is much easier than electronics or mechanical engineering. Only recently started playing with other two as hobby only…
But I did observed my bed moved slightly when I forgot to lock it and it wasn’t seated properly in. It wasn’t half as bed as on @tokyosuits ‘s pic, but something really similar to that…
29/12/2014 at 2:39 pm #12713I’m but a lowly electrical engineer, wish I took mechanical now.
I’ll check the bed and under tomorrow. I wonder if the belt skipped a tooth?
29/12/2014 at 8:59 pm #12728The bed should reset its position every time a home is performed. This should eliminate the skipped tooth issue; the Robox is designed not to have issues with skipped teeth. I would check that there is nothing obstructing the Y axis motion. If that is not the case, check the fit on the PEI and make sure that it doesn’t move around when installed.
The Bowden Tube issue should have been taken care of with the new Bowden tube and extruder included with your Beta update kit. If that is not the case, then I think that your Bowden tube is not inserted completely. Insert it all the way, it should click twice if you are using the old style extruder connection. If you have installed the new extruder and Bowden tube, it shouldn’t have the issue where it is popping out any longer.
I think that you may notice that the excess extrusion corresponds to surface layers or transition layers between perimeters and infill. This is an issue with Slic3r. It should go away with the next software upgrade.
29/12/2014 at 9:24 pm #12730Thanks for your comments.
If it was a skip, it was mid print so homing wouldn’t have helped. I’ll check the tension on the belt in the morning.
I’m not sure the holder I have. Mine wasn’t beta but from looking at the upgrade page it looks like I have the old one. I have tried many times to insert it but it most assuredly does not click.
Do we have an ETA on the new slicer? I need to print some demo parts for work after the new years break.
30/12/2014 at 8:45 am #12741Last ETA for new software was given two weeks ago for a week ago. In other words - it was supposed to be released 7 days ago. When I heard what people who got to be beta testers said - I made pessimistic (realistic?) prognosis that it won’t happen in this year. There’s only today and tomorrow for me to be proven wrong (I would really like it :)) but given that 1st is bank holiday I wouldn’t expect it until mid next week as the earliest.
05/01/2015 at 1:02 am #13048I manually updated slic3r and a few of my problems are gone. I think I may have screwed something up though.
The filament stops extruding midway through prints. I checked the filament, but it isnt stripped.
I turned down the extruder current (M908) down to 700mA, to try to stop the filament from stripping. I ended up turning it back up to 1A, but Im not sure what the default was. I tried to push the filament into the extruder to try to help things along, but it still wouldnt extrude. Its like the extruder stopped and was holding it. That or something was stuck.
I stoped the print and ran the change material command and it extruded fine. I am at a loss. I really want this printer to work, but I dont want to have to re-engineer the whole damn thing.
05/01/2015 at 11:01 am #13070When I was looking at the element 14 road tests yesterday I noted that one of the blue units they were sent had an old-style bowden tube that CEL had to replace for them, so that issue seems to have persisted well past beta, into kickstarter units and on into production.
05/01/2015 at 11:34 pm #13105My bowden tube seems to be holding well now with my m2.6 nut and zip-ties. I actually made it through a print yesterday!
I still need to test the fine settings and the new slic3r doesn’t like some of my models, but it seems to be working better.

06/01/2015 at 8:10 am #13112@tokyosuits Cool! Can you make some pictures and maybe write more detailed explanation? It is for people experiencing same problem while waiting CEL to supply is with new style Bowden tube…
