Actually 80 DPI, which sounds more respectable. However, why?

It might be easier to buy a printer. Maybe there are some out there that do embossed style.

A long,long time ago, before there were cheap color printers I printed a mandelbrot on a Hewlett Packard pen plotter, 960 lines, taking half a day, for each colour (about 10)

Bear in mind that I am in USA, where they have fewer machines out there to support. If you are in the UK your support will come from Holland, and there has been some grumbling about reaction time.

I supported Robox originally, but dropped out when the build envelope turned out to be just a bit too small.

I ended up with an Ultimaker 2, now available assembled in America.

I think the nozzle valves in the Robox are a really clever trick.

The forum suggests that it is still a problem to get good prints.

Well, I certainly stirred things up. If the problem in the Y axis is just the rim around the build plate plastic, then it could be solved as a kluge with a thicker plate. Speaking just for myself I would accept longer bed heating times ( my solidoodle takes 13 minutes) and reduced Z dimension. I would also accept a reduction in the X axis. I…[Read more]

Thinking some more about this issue, it becomes a problem for me. 1/2 inch from each edge reduces the y dimension to about 5.4 inches, 137.3 mm. The logic of what I want to print needs 149.7 mm. Totally solved the legibility problem both on the forum and the blog. I fired up a windows accessory called magnifier, and set it to 200% and full screen. I could scroll with the wheel and sit back and relax and enjoy.

Thanks for undertaking what looks like a considerable amount of work.

The good thing about Solidoodle is its lively community. I’m pleased that we can do the same.

I have a question. At some time in the future there will be a double head, to enable soluble support printing, which seems to me to be very desirable. Where does the second reel go?

Hey.. I successfully downloaded a PDF manual. Its a good job the iPad has a drool proof screen.

Thes pictures which snuck out of the secretive beta program seem to me to show that the Robox can meet its specs now , even though they have a couple of months more for tweaking and fine tuning.
I remain encouraged.

True, although some more assembly of stacking parts and axles ( Horologists call them arbors) would be needed. If there were a laser cutter attachment I would try it.

I also got a letter, and I believe that I am in the group. I want to feedback that I never seriously expected June, and i am not at all bothered by the waiting time. I’m immensely encouraged. The beta group can now give rapid feedback. I think that getting the hardware right is the first priority. The software can be updated over time.
