The quality of CEL filaments varies. You can open a factory sealed package and get a fine one or some bad one (with e.g. enhanced slipping) of the same material. Therefore it might be useful to print a production date or a chargenumber on the reels or write them on the eeprom. Those data should be collected when a support ticket is opened or alternative mailed separately to CEL. The next steps would be to identify “bad charges” with a high ticket count and take care of it in quality control and warranty issues.
15/12/2015 at 4:45 pm #24977We haven’t had a lot of reports of problems with different batches of the same material.
I wonder if you have seen problems due to different settings?
If an reel has the default settings on it and is loaded onto a system running version of AutoMaker which has a newer filament profile it will be overwritten with new data to keep it in line with the current default settings.
If you have edited any settings on the reel then it will not be updated, this is to preserve your custom settings. In this case it may be better to write a default profile back to the reel and apply your alterations again.
There is also the issue of moisture in filament or perhaps filament diameter which will vary slightly and produce visible differences.
The main reason for changes in printed parts is most likely changes to our software and how it behaves in different situations. We have made constant and sometimes dramatic changes, not always improving every aspect of printing but always headed in that direction, sometimes we have to step back and take a new path.

as I’m not using custom profiles on the reels, that`s not my problem. Moisture shouldn’t be a problem right after breaking a factory seal. In the forum are other threads about Problems with specific materials. I don’t think in any way it’s CEL specific. Right now I just wanted to suggest to keep track of the quality, especially as the SmartReel should make this easier.
16/12/2015 at 9:50 am #25001It is a nice idea and more data is always better, just quite difficult in this case to go to that level of detail. Production dates / batch codes should be there in any case, I will see what we have in place and see if it can be more visible to users.
Most of the complaints about certain materials have been specific to an individual printer rather than a bad batch. Sometimes it appears that a material is at fault but it is something else, there are a lot of conditions which have to be correct to get a good print. Just be thankful you are not using a reprap machine and having to trawl wikis to figure out why your bed temperature is creeping or the levelling goes out during a print.
