It appears that the current Bowden tube set-up is far from ideal for flexible materials though it may well offer many benefits for rigid materials perhaps permitting higher print speeds - courtesy of a light weight head.
To optimise for ‘high friction’ flexible material a a new material feed path without a constrained bend of smaller radius that that formed into the flexible filament by its time on its reel and an ‘extruder’ integrated into the head that pulls the material from the reel and pushes the material only a short distance to the hot end (nozzle).
I, for one, would happily settle for a slower printing speed which a heavier head may mandate for trouble free running of flexible material as long as it is reasonably straightforward to return to the standard set-up for rigid materials.
A nice challenge for the Robox design philosopy…
