In reply to: CEL Polar White PLA
I’ve focussed on printing in PLA for the last couple of weeks and it works great with the Robox; The Polar White PLA is giving me issues so I put that one away for a while but with third party PLA you can print very nice objects. It seems the Robox’s fans can’t cool down the prints fast enough with smaller prints messing up prints with layers merging, I fixed this by placing a giant fan in front of the open lid of the Robox, this worked fine so far; I might build a more elegant solution using 3D printed parts, some low-noise PC fans and a fan speed controller later.

Might help a little but lowering the ambient temperature a lot is hard/impossible since the fan can’t work up to the heat generated by the building plate/nozzle so you won’t be able to get it below 26 degrees or so I guess without external cooling. If you don’t have a external fan just make sure you leave the lid open, put the ambient temperature to below 25 (this makes the fan spin at max speed all the time causing a terrible noise) and it might help. The fan of the Robox’s case is really noisy so I prefer using my external fan in front of it (it does a better job as well).

I don’t think that your neighbors get disturbed, but it may affect your sleep. It is not loud, but definitely audible (and annoying and loud enough to place it somewhere else than on your desktop). As the printhead is quite hot and build plate hotish, it might not be wise to place it in closed and not ventilated place. Despite all this I have placed my Robox is in cleaning closet, and when the door is closed, air inside gets really warm. So if you want to enclose the Robox you need to make sure that air gets changed by fan, and preferably make some sort of fail-safe for that…
[edit]: and print speed affects the noise a lot. So dialing down the print speed you get quieter operation…

There is never a stupid question, your only stupid if you do not ask and go ahead!
Prime example and no joke was when I was doing a pyro display once. The rule of no smoking next to the pyro was pretty clear I thought but this guy took example to it and poof, the finale (very end set price of a disaply) went up with him stood next to it with no PPE on. Oh and this was a fan (left, center, right arrangment) so it did hit him. This was a mix of
10x 16” shells (biggest allowed in the Uk)
10x 8” shells
5x 6” shells
20x 4”shells
10x 3” shells£2000 easy just for the end of the show
The question put forward before he went pop was why am I not allowed to smoke when we’ve live pyro out. When I’d finished putting the fire out on him I ask him, so why do we not smoke or having any naked flames when live pyro is out. Fair play to him his response was because that happens! The result was an amazing display in the day time, lots of noise, no finale for the show, an upset show orgnaiser, an angry boss and this guy had blow his arm off, 1st degree burns across his chest, face, neck and lost an eye.
So inshort always ask as you’ll never be called thick dumb or stupid. No one’s an expert but they will understand what you don’t which make them look like an expert but they will never know something you have the answer for. As my mum said, Don’t ask Don’t get!

Rob: the light and fan both work manually. I can’t run the nozzle opening calibration -it is grayed out on the panel. I did run the purge but nothing ever came out - it did go on for some time. Yes there were ratcheting noises from the filament drive system at the left rear during the purge. I know filament got to the head during that operation.
I homed the machine (that works) and tried choosing different nozzles. The head moves back and forth but it is clear the tips do not move.
I’ve attached a screen shot of AM (.12 latest version). - Eric

You must be logged in to view attached files.Hi @erickphd, I presume you’ve run the nozzle opening calibration? did it run the full purge cycle, start to finish? did you notice a ratcheting or clicking noise coming from the LH side of the machine?
May be worth trying to home the axis first, heating the head, then trying to select different nozzles.
Also, does the light or fan work when you manually click on the buttons in AM?
