I don’t request to turn our robox into a microwave oven, but I was given this link and found it interesting:

This is such a brilliant time, i don’t know of an industry that’s moving as fast as this one.

It’s getting to the point where im not sure i know where we are going to be in ten years,

but i do know its going to be very interesting.

well, you only have to look at some recent innovations: some will be creative with it,
the majority will just use it for the most unimaginative silly stuff we can’t think of now.
And there’s always be the gap between the people who want (or can) learn how to design in 3D, and those who don’t.

Something that would really make a difference is if one day we can rent a 3D printer that spits out concrete (or rather some smarter material)
and build houses from plans you order from architects, or your own plans you get approved by an architect.
Our home is still the biggest investment we make in our personal life.
Make that material 100% recyclabel and a building can almost be a consumer product that can be rebuilt according to your ever changing needs in life.

And don’t forget: the industry is using this for decades now, if 3D printing has it in it to change the world, it has already done it behind our backs.
    We’re just last in line.

Oh totally agree that the tech got a long way in the hands of big companies and the such, but now the general public and smaller companies are getting their grubby hands one the tech the industry is moving forward with pace and variation.

speaking of variation have you seen the Solar Sinter very cool. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptUj8JRAYu8

As for the 3d printed building materials their is a couple about. one was a MIT developed polybrick that interlocked and needed no mortar, only trouble with it was it was made of clay and needed to be fired.

What with new ways of using materials and new materials its only a matter of time before some one cracks proper 3d printed building materials.

So are we last in line?

I for one dont think so, i think its going to change so much from where its been for the last few decades and in some respects already has, and we are going to have front row seats where as its normally those faceless big companies.
